Sorry. I don’t think it’s possible to submit updates to current versions, so since the testing was done anyway, the affiliate content came in the same update.
I don’t think it’s possible to submit updates to current versions […]
WordPress sends out emails to plugin developers with every WordPress release, repeatedly telling devs there’s no need to release a new version after they changed the Tested up to
tag.
“Official” statement here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/update-plugin-tested-up-to-version-without-triggering-plugin-update-to-users/#post-9668692
I hear you. Reverting the change now, and trying to make a “nicer” change in the update.
@mungobbq: I see that you have already reverted the ad from trunk
. While technically legal under the plugin guidelines, I urge you to take that paragraph from rule 11 under advisement:
Advertising within the WordPress dashboard should be avoided, as it is generally ineffective. Users normally only visit settings pages when they’re trying to solve a problem. Making it harder to use a plugin does not generally encourage a good review, and we recommend limiting any ads placed therein. Remember: tracking referrals via those ads is not permitted (see guideline 7) and most third-party systems do not permit back-end advertisements. Abusing the guidelines of an advertising system will result in developers being reported upstream.
At least for myself, such unrelated ads make it less likely that I will purchase a service.
@pputzer I agree. I am attempting to find a better way to place the ad, and I apologize for the intrusive placement in the last version.
@shortpixel,
I’m very disappointed that this plugin gets a nagging admin notice after almost each update, even without mentioning this in the changelog. For me this is a no go.
I’m afraid I will need to give this plugin a 1 star review and stop using it if this intransparent update policy doesn’t end.

Apparently @mungobbq has sold the plugin to @shortpixel some weeks ago, without disclosing the fact publicly. Quite disappointing, all in all 🙁
@pputzer @tyrannous Correct, I am no longer involved with the plugin development, and Shortpixel has taken over. You can still download earlier versions of the plugin from WordPress, or its Github repo: https://github.com/mansj/enable-media-replace
@mungobbq Thanks a lot for the effort and work you have taken to provide a very useful plugin!
