See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this correctly.
Thanks for the quick response!
I just started using WordPress and am still pretty confused regarding the URL change. Do I alter the wp-config.php or the URL in the database? Where would I do this? Sorry for the dumb questions… )’:
Personally, I would recommend using the functions.php method.
I tried going directly through the FTP (wp_options>siteurl) and changed it from http://www.voilaframingstudio.com to http://voilaframingstudio.com to voilaframingstudio.com, but nothing seems to work. I also can’t find the functions.php in the FTP…
I tried to change the URL directly in the database through phpMyAdmin per the link you sent me. However, nothing changed and I still can’t access the site.
So what did you access via FTP? Did you try the functions.php method?
Umm I tried to change it directly through siteurl under wp_options, but it didn’t seem to work. Where can I find functions.php?
If you know how to access phpMyAdmin on your host, then you can edit these values directly to get you up and running again.
Backup your database and save the copy off-site.
Login to phpMyAdmin.
Click the link to your Databases.
A list of your databases will appear. Choose the one that is your WordPress database.
All the tables in your database will appear on the screen.
From the list, look for wp_options. Note: The table prefix of wp_ may be different if you changed it when installing.
Click on the small icon indicated as Browse.
A screen will open with a list of the fields within the wp_options table.
Under the field option_name, scroll down and look for siteurl.
Click the Edit Field icon which usually is found at the far left at the beginning of the row.
The Edit Field window will appear.
In the input box for option_value, carefully change the URL information to the new address.
Verify this is correct and click Go to save the information.
You should be returned to your wp_options table.
Look for the home field in the table and click Edit Field. Note There are several pages of tables inside wp_options. Look for the > symbol to page through them.
In the input box for option_value, carefully change the URL information to the new address.
Verify this is correct and click Go to save the information.
Where can I find functions.php?
In your current theme’s folder.
Sorry for all of the questions. Do I access that under phpMyAdmin>database>voilaframingstu? I don’t see current themes or functions.php… I am going through the host website because I can’t access my wp-admin.
No – you access the wp-content/themes/your_current_theme_name/function.php file via FTP.
Problem… I don’t have a wp-content folder. It jumps straight from wp_commentmeta and wp_comments to wp_links.
Those are database tables. You need to be looking at files using FTP.
Finally got it! I was able to get on the wp-admin page, but the website is still not showing up. Do I need to change something else?
