    hi

i have been developing a WP site on my hosting where is was given a temporary URL to be able to access the site before i transferred over the DNS to the hosting (so the old site can still be accessed)

however in my wordpress CP i changed the
    WordPress address (URL)
    Site address (URL)
to the new URL before i had changed the DNS for that domain to point to my hosting.

i hit save and now i cant access the admin area at all as it gives a 404 because the DNS is not changed over...

in short!, can i change this back via the database? or any other way?

    thanks

    Site address (URL) tempview.myhost.com.au

and i changed them to http://www.theurl.com

OK, so i have managed to change the
    WordPress address (URL)
    Site address (URL)
in the database so i can now view it in the original testing domain

when i transfer over the DNS so the 'real' URL points to the setup i have now and accessing via the temp viewing site. , what else do i need to do??

    thanks

It can take up to 72 hours (usually less) for DNS changes to propagate to your ISP. Unfortunately, it all depends on how often your ISP refreshes their DNS cache.

This may be one of those "try again tomorrow" situations.

You can also follow the instructions here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

And then, when the domain starts resolving (working) change the site name like you just did. That should solve your problem without downtime.
