I have strange issue with the plugin, I used it to change text of woocommerce error messages in checkout page, particularly, wanted to change “Billing first name is a required field” error message, so I wrote “Whatever first name is a required field” as a test hoping to change it later to what I actually want if it works.

It worked 🙂 but now am stuck with the word “Whatever”, can’t change it anymore, I deleted line from Say What?, I deactivated the plugin, even deleted it and re-installed.

I added a new line to translate “Whatever first name is a required field” to something else, all didn’t work, a curse of “Whatever” fell on my checkout page.

    Is this weird?

On a standard WooCommerce install there are three strings that make up that message.

    1) The field label “First name”
    2) The fieldset prefix “Billing %s”
    3) The actual error “%s is a required field”

It’s not clear from your post what replacement you actually set up.

However, what I can say is that Say What? *cannot* continue to apply a replacement once its removed, or when the plugin is inactive – that’s not how it works. If you’re seeing that then the issue is somewhere else.

If a change is persisting when removed from Say What? the likely cause is that what you’ve translated is a default value that’s now been set in an option somewhere. I don’t believe that would be the case for a vanilla WooCommerce installation, but it’s entirely possible that it’s the case for your theme, or another extension to have an option for this that’s now been set with the “default” value you configured in Say What?

Ok, upon your reply, I checked the only plugin that may have inteference with this, TranslatePress plugin since I use it to translate all text strings to make an Arabic version of the website.

Turning off translatepress brought back “Billing first name is a required field.”, so it was responsible for this.

Don’t know how to explain this to TranslatePrress though :s
