Support » Fixing WordPress » Changed site to WP and lost a ton of traffic

  • I recently changed my site over to wordpress and I’ve seemed to have lost a ton of traffic.

Previously I would get about 400 visitors a day, since changing to WP (2 days now) my traffic has not hit 100 any day.

The old site was a custom php/mysql script I wrote. I imported all of my old pages and comments into WP and the site works perfectly.

I also modified the .htaccess file to redirect the old URLs with a 301 to the new WP URLs.

Am I missing something? How can I salvage my traffic? I’m just about ready to load the old system back on the site.

    Thanks,
    James

  • .. you do realize that none of what you claim makes sense?

something doesnt compute, you cant see that ..?

lets go a step further, assuming what you say is accurate — if its the right site, and you believe alexa:

    http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/maabadi.com

your traffic decline started months ago.

.. also that dangersomething blog, that needs to be upgraded.

you seem, according to alexa, to get most of your traffic from India. Are you, or is your host doing anything that would result in subnets being blocked?

No, I don’t understand your confusion.

    1) Had a website since 2005, was getting about 400 visitors a day.

    2) Installed WordPress two days ago.

    3) Wrote a small script to import the pages into my newly installed WP.
(the old site was not wordpress, but i did want to keep all of my content)

    4) Site works fine after the import, pages appear, comments appear.

    5) Changed the .htaccess to redirect to the new URLs (since wordpress my site now has different URLs to the various pages)

    6) Day two after doing all the above my traffic has dropped to about 80 visitors per day.

    Thanks,
    James

    Hi there,
    Thanks for the info.

    Actually the site is http://www.properpint.com.

I have loaded the pubs as posts and imported the comments.

Sorry to be so vague on the previous post.

dunno, your robots.txt is what it should be, google sees you, alexa is happy.
