ftp to site or use host’s file manager to rename the plugin
that should deactivate it and let you log in
go through your cPanel file manager and rename/delete the plugin or use your FTP client and rename/delete it and retry your login.
lol sorry samuel
Thank you for your rapid reply, Ionniea. I got into the cPanel’s file manager, went to public_html/blog/ but at that point I got stuck. I have found several plug-in folders but haven’t found, and don’t know where to find, the “hello dolly” plug-in. DawnWriter
Thank you Samuel for your rapid reply to my query. However, I (as a newbie) do want you to know that I have no idea of what “ftp to site” means.
look in /wp-content/plugins
in /plugins
folder you will find all of your plugins
you are looking for hellodolly.php
rename it to hellodolly-old.php
Thank you Samuel, but I am still having a problem. I seem to have found 3 plugin folders, none of them containing “hellodolly.” They are listed below.
1. Entry I found under public_html>wp-content>plugins:
akismet
2. Entries I found under public_html> blog>wp-content>plugins:
akismet, jetpack, limit-login-attempts, statpress-visitors, wp-super-cache, wp-updates-notifier
3. Entries I found under public_html>blog>NameofMyBlog>wp-content>plugins:
akismet, newstatpress, page-and-post-lister, testimonials-widget, twenty-eleven-theme-extensions, wp-categ-menu, wp-updates-notifier, xhanch-my-quote
Is there some place else to look?
Not FOLDERS, DawnWriter, there should be a file right there in wp-content/plugins.
Many, many thanks to Ipstenu, Samuel B, and Ionniea.
I’m up and running and I think all is well again.
Season’s Greetings to all of you helpful people. DawnWriter
