Change the name of files uploaded through form manager

  • I have a form where people can upload files. Usually word format. People seem to put characters in the file names that the system doesn’t like. Is there a way to have file names automatically change to something completely different.

    e.g. original file name
    “my-special-document/for_you.docx”

    changed to
    “submission.docx”

If not, could I eliminate all special characters at least so I am left with just a string of text, such as

    “myspecialdocumentforyou.docx”

    Thank you, in advance.

This is a bug, but I’m having trouble recreating it. With the browsers I tested (Chrome, FF, IE10), the path did not arrive as part of the upload, and my server was fine with dashes and underscores in the file name. If you know of certain characters that have caused the problem I could start investigating from there.

There was a bug in prior versions where Unicode characters in the file name weren’t being handled properly.

Here’s a file someone tried to up load today “The Children\’s Book FINAL R copy (10-30-13-01-20-57).pdf” The date and time stamp was added by form manager. It appears that the “\” was not part of the file name, form manager added that in.

    Thank you!
