Support » Plugin: Jetpack by WordPress.com » Change text of “notify me of follow up comments…”

    Regarding the jetpack subscriptions settings:

    Is there a way to change the text next to the checkbox that appears under the comment form, which reads “Notify me of follow-up comments by email”…

    For example, if I wanted to change this text to read “Notify me of follow-up THOUGHTS by email.”, is there code I could enter into functions.php to do so?

    Hi there!

    Yes, there is a filter for doing that:
    https://developer.jetpack.com/hooks/jetpack_subscribe_comment_label/

    Please note that it works only when using the native comment form, though.

    Give it a try and let me know how it goes 🙂

    Thanks. I have deactivated jetpack comments (so I am using wordpress default comment form–which I assume is what you mean by native comment form). I am new to wordpress and, especially, jetpack. I see that the filter is:

    apply_filters ( 'jetpack_subscribe_comment_label', string $comment_sub_text )

    which on entry I assume would be:

    apply_filters ( 'jetpack_subscribe_comment_label', string 'notify me of follow up thoughts by email')

    Where do I add that? Normally, I enter edits like this in a child theme functions.php file, but this code does not work there. Are there tweaks I need to add to make it work?

    Thanks.

    Yes, there is an easy way to do that!
    You can use a functionality plugin to manage all code snippets you want to add to your site:
    https://jetpack.com/support/adding-code-snippets/

    Hope that helps! 🙂

    Edit: we’ve also just added an example on this page to make things clearer! Check it out!

    Thanks. The actual text I noted above breaks the site:

    apply_filters ( jetpack_subscribe_comment_label’, string ‘notify me of follow up thoughts by email’)

    If I create a snippet with this code, I get a 500 Internal Service Error.

    To make this a working snippet, is there additional code I need to add?

    Just following up, I was able to get it to work with the extra code added at the bottom of the link you provided (https://developer.jetpack.com/hooks/jetpack_subscribe_comment_label/)

    I added this to a code snippet, changing the text by the button to “Notify me of follow-up thoughts by email”:

    function jeherve_sub_comment_text() {
            return 'notify me of follow-up thoughts by email';
    }
    add_filter( 'jetpack_subscribe_comment_label', 'jeherve_sub_comment_text' );

    Thanks for your help.

    I’m using a plug-in called “Subscribe to Comments Reloaded“. It actually features an option to do exactly what I want: “If this option is enabled the subscription box will be above the submit button in your comment form.” The problem is, when I enable it, the “notify me” box (and accompanying text) disappears completely instead of moving. I’m attaching a screen capture of what my comment form currently looks like. how it will be helpful in Word press hook.

    Hey Robert,

    I’m glad to see you found a nice solution for achieving that 🙂

    I suggest reaching out to the plugin author to fix that little detail that’s off.

    The screenshot you mentioned didn’t got attached, also, so you may want to re-attach it again?
