Support » Theme: Hueman » Change text in Search Form

  • Hi! I’m using the search widget in my left (primary) sidebar, and I would like to be able to change the text in the search box. I tried changing this code from the searchform.php file:

    <form method=”get” class=”searchform themeform” action=”<?php echo home_url(‘/’); ?>”>
    <input type=”text” class=”search” name=”s” onblur=”if(this.value==”)this.value='<?php _e(‘To search type and hit enter’,’hueman’); ?>’;” onfocus=”if(this.value=='<?php _e(‘To search type and hit enter’,’hueman’); ?>’)this.value=”;” value=”<?php _e(‘To search type and hit enter’,’hueman’); ?>” />

    I replaced all the ‘To search type and hit enter’ in the above code with the text of my choice, but nothing happened. I”m not sure what I actually need to modify, and it seems to be different for every theme (even if you are using the built in WordPress search widget) – I would appreciate any help! Thanks!

  • Hi!

    Alternate method (doesn’t involve code level changes): Hueman theme comes with the .mo and .po files, which are used for translation in different languages (the two files are located in ..//wp-content/themes/hueman/languages). Using Poedit (download it from here) open the en_US.po file and “translate” the “To search type and hit enter” to something of your choice. Save & upload the en_US.po file to your server and that’s it.

    Thanks – but one more question. I’ve never uploaded a file to my server! I manage everything completely with the wordpress dashboard. I’m hosted through dreamhost. Can you tell me how exactly to upload a file to the server? Thanks!

    I’d recommend using FileZilla – great free FTP software.
