    Hello there.

I needed to make a start on a WordPress installation before I had a domain transferred to me, so I set up a domain reference (not sure if this is general terminology or just that of my hosting company, Heart Internet, basically it provides a temp domain to assign hosting to so that you can begin work ahead of a domain transfer) and assigned hosting.

Once the hosting was assigned I installed WP. Here’s the temp url http://79.170.44.141/vtheplacetobe.com/clubv/ for the install.

Now, I was expecting that once the domain transfer had completed everything would update automatically and the ‘79.170.44.141/’ part of the domain would disappear. This was not the case.

I contacted my hosting provider for advice, they replied as folows :

“When you install the WordPress software, it chooses a BaseURL that all other links go off from. Because you originally installed it on the temporary URL, that has been set as the Base URL. I would advise checking either the WordPress forums or the internet as a whole, to see if there are guides or forum posts about how to remedy this.”

    So, here I am.

The installation I’m working on is at http://79.170.44.141/vtheplacetobe.com/clubv/ and what I would like to achieve is to drop the ‘79.170.44.141/’ from the url.

Any advice or suggestions from either season WP pros or anyone who’s found themselves in the same situation would be hugely appreciated.

I’ve taken a look around for advice but can’t find anything that specifically fits my problem. I was thinking of just creating another WP install now the domain is transferred and just transferring my current installation over on to it, but I thought I’d pop a post up here first to see if anyone had an other simpler suggestions.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, look forward to hearing your suggestions.

    Thanks

    Mark.
