Change template hierarchy

  • I am looking for a way to, via plugin preferably, change the template hierarchy.

I have a post category called “news”. I have my permalinks set so mydomain.com/news/ is the category archive and mydomain.com/news/post-title/ is the permalink to the single post.

I also built a page called “news”. In this page, I have a bunch of information including a list of the posts in the news category.

I am looking for a way for wordpress to give priority to the page instead of the archive when the slug “news” is used.

any thoughts as to how to make this happen? Thanks in advance for your help.
