Support » Fixing WordPress » Change tag base – 301 redirect old indexed links?

I keep reading conflicting guidance on this. I’m happy with my permalink structure – would love to lose ‘/category/’ but read of many issues with sub-categories for people that tried this – including using plugins. I’m focused on tags.

Within WordPress Admin I can change the tag base ‘tag’ by default to something else. I’d like to change it to suit how I use it. Possibly ‘apps’. My tag pages are indexed at Google – i.e. I think the change will be fine internally but do I need to write a 301 to redirect old URL to new URL for external links (in this case If so can anyone advise of the appropriate htaccess 301 code to redirect from old structure to new?
