    Hey there,

This can be done using the Container > Search > Placeholder Text option.

    I hope that helps

    Peter

    Hello,
First place I searched, but there is no Container > Search > Placeholder Text option in this section 🙁

    Options available are :
    Text Colour
    Border Colour
    Background Colour
    Placeholder Colour

    Hey there,

Ah I see, it’s a Pro option so you probably have the Hide Pro Options tickbox ticked.

If you want to do it yourself you could possibly change it via JavaScript although that doesn’t feel very nice.

    All the best

    Peter

Hmmm, a Pro option to be able to change a placeholder text seems kind of an overkill… I just want to translate Search in French (Rechercher) …
Ok then, where could I change the placeholder in a file in your plugin folder?
Thanks a lot for your help

    Hey there,

It could be overkill but I have to draw the line somewhere. I’m sure most people would say the same about every Pro option 😉

If it’s for translation it should show up in the string translation options for Polylang or WPML however as that is free.

    Please let me know

    Peter

Being able to change a word from English to another language should be well before the drawn line your are talking about but I am not making a living selling plugins, and I have no idea how tough it is 🙂

I use https://fr.wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/ (like a fair number of other users) and I could not find the placeholder string.

I am going to install WPML and see if I can find it.

    Thanks

    Hey there,

Fair enough. I think you are right so I will make it free for the next release.

In regards loco translate, it’s not a plugin I have come across before and the plugin is not currently integrated with it I’m afraid.

    I hope that helps

    Peter

Thanks a lot, I confirm that your plugin is indeed 5 stars material, very happy with my vote!
    Merci.

It will be even more worthy when I make the Search Placeholder free!

hi Peter, any Update on the free “Search Placeholder” Option? Maybe you have missed to add this in latest Release. 😉 Would be cool if you can offer us a free Translation Option for Search Placeholder.

    Hey there,

Apologies I haven’t done any feature releases on the Free version recently. I will add it into the plugin this weekend so the next time any type of release goes out it will go out as part of it.

Thanks for bringing this up again.

    Hey there,

I’ve just checked and this was actually added at the end of January last year so has been inside the plugin for over a year now.

I’ve just checked on my dev site and it is indeed there.

Are you unable to translate it?

    Peter

Hi Peter. i use Version 3.1.19 and Placeholder Text for the Word “Search” is still a Pro Option instead off a Free Option. i think it should be a Free Option to make it even more worthy 😉

    Hey there,

The discussion was regarding translation of the search text not changing the actual text.

Unfortunately I can’t make Pro features Free as it’s unfair to those who already purchased it.

    Peter
