Is there a hook to change which downstream SMTP MTA to use?

I have a few destination domains that won’t deliver via our main MTA, so what I’d like to do is hook wp_mail and change the MTA depending on the To field.

  • Hi @tinodidriksen,

Thanks for reaching out. I apologize but I’m not sure what ‘downstream SMTP MTA’ is. wp_mail is also a filter hook you can use to do something depending on ‘To’ field.

WP Mail SMTP uses PHPMailer library that is preinstalled with WordPress. If you’d like to change some SMTP configuration, you might want to look into these SMTP files within WordPress.

    I hope this helps!

We use WP Mail SMTP to send mail via a 3rd party SMTP daemon. We’d like to change the hostname, username, password config on-the-fly based on the To field of the to-be-sent email.

    Hi @tinodidriksen,

Thanks for the explanation. Currently, we don’t have the ability to change the SMTP settings based on the To address. I’ve made a note of this feature for our team to consider reviewing it as we plan our roadmap for the future.

    Have a good one! 🙂
