Change middle column’s background to different color

  • Hi all. I’m trying to get the center column of my site to show up as a different color and to add shadowing for to add dimension and I’m having a heck of a time at it.

    I’ve tried a unique div tag for css but that did not work.

    Could some one help me out my site it http://www.johnmarron.com.

    Thanks in advance.

    width: 400px;
    font-size: 0.9em;
    padding: 0px 20px 0 20px;
    border-right: 1px solid #696969;
    border-left: 1px solid #696969;
    background-color:#ff0000; <——————–
    }

    Adding the line indicated makes it red.
