having a hard time finding solution for this

WP 3.6 Subdomain Domain Mapping network

need to change login URL to sidestep escalating brute force attempts

Better WP Security not working well at all - rerouted logins to 404 and didn't change primary domain login/wp-admin URL... and database backup failed too

other plugins seemed to have a lot of unresolved issues in support forum so hoping to get a referral recommendation

simple htacess edits don't seem to address the multisite / domain mapping issue

any suggestions on how to change wp-admin / wp-login URLs for multisite?

  2. Don't. It doesn't matter at all if you move it or not.

Read http://codex.wordpress.org/Brute_Force_Attacks for what we recommend.

Thanks - seems like adding password to wp-login.php using .htpasswds is most straightforward approach, however it looks like it wouldn't be viable for multisite with many many admin users.

Going to check out the plugins referenced in the Codex.

what do you mean it doesn't matter if moved (change URL)? don't these attacks simply go to site.com/wp-login.php and then start to try to login?

  4. Some do, but the problem (IMO) isn't that they're trying to log in, but that they're hammering the hell out of your site :/

Read http://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress#Security_through_obscurity - In general, since you always HAVE to have a login and admin page, the hackers will always be able to figure it out :/
