    Hi Folks,

I was to change the default setting on my Classic Editor ‘Increase Indent’ button from 40px to 20px.

    Is this possible?

    I do not use blocks.

    Regards and thanks,
    Angus

This would best be done via “additonal CSS”. Please provide a link to a page on your site where we can see this. Thanks.

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks! I know I can use CSS to indent all paragraphs with e.g. p {padding-left:20px;}

But I only want change certain ones, which currently is done using the ‘Increase Indent’ button in the editor.

    Link is: https://www.hiskingdomprophecy.com/your-times-are-in-his-hands/

    Post Indents are as follows:
    1) <p style="padding-left: 40px;"><em>"Giving thanks
    2) <ul style="list-style-type: none;">
    3) <ul style="list-style-type: square;">
    4) <p style="padding-left: 40px;"><em>"But thou
    5) <p style="padding-left: 40px;"><em>"Out of
    6) <p style="padding-left: 40px;"><em>"And he
    7) <p style="padding-left: 20px; text-align: justify;"><strong>Blessed
    8) <p style="padding-left: 40px;"><em>"My times

All indents are default settings, except 7) where the standard 40px was edited to 20.

It is easy to go in to text and change 40 to 20…. but it is tiresome at 100+ times per day….

The WordPress defaults were written when folk used Desktop screens. Now with phone screens, the 40px white down the left takes up too much real-estate, especially as in the above para 7) which is also bolded. The proportion of text to space is just wrong.

on average 75+% of our users use phones to read our site and often it is 85-100%, so I really need to optimize for a phone screen and a standard default 40px WP Classic Editor indent does not do the job any longer.

I asked Classic Editor for help in the past…. but was just ignored as expected.

    Look forward to your suggestions.

    Regards and thanks,
    Angus

Oh, it inlines it. Didn’t know that. I though it just used <ul> which means you can use CSS to increase the indent on that element. I don’t use Classic Editor anymore and, despite what you might want :-), urge folks to get on board with the newer way of doing things.

Another idea is that if you’re not using blockquotes, you could adapt that CSS to give you the sort of indenting you want.

    Hi Steven,

Thanks, but blockquotes is not a solution by any stretch of the imagination.

I guess I’ll just continue to do it my way and give up any idea of changing a dated WP default.

Please consider this closed, though not resolved.

    Regards,
    Angus
