• I am currently in the process of setting up a blog on my wordpress website. However, my site was originally built by a web designer and since Ive learned a lot about wordpress and now understand the basics of php I would like to create the blog myself and save some money at the same time.

So in order to setup the blog I am first trying to change the homepage to a static page. I have gone to ‘settings > reading’ and tried to change it here, although for some reason the ‘home’ page isn’t appearing in the drop down box. I think this has something to do with the way my designer set up the site originally. So does anyone know of an alternative route to make the home page a static page or how I get the home page to appear in the drop down.

    Thanks in advance,

    Will

  • Hi Will,

Do you actually have a “Home” page in your Pages? If not, create one and it should appear in that drop-down.

No I dont actually have a home page listed under pages. The only details I can amend on the homepage is the text and the way I do this is through a couple of tabs that my web designer created that appear on the left hand side of wp.

If I create another homepage it wont be the same as my homepage that I have at the moment??

You can create any ‘page’ you want to be used ‘as the home page’ with the settings -> reading setting. So create a page that you want to use for it with any name you want to use and then set it.

Whatever you have set as your “Front Page” under the Reading section of the WP admin is what shows up as your home page. You can change it to any of the pages on your site through that drop-down menu. If you create a page called “Home” and then choose it as your Front Page, then that will become your home page.

What page is currently selected in the drop-down?

Thanks Frumph. I have tried what you have suggested but it has changed the look of my homepage.

Keith, the ‘front page displays’ is set as ‘your latest posts’. Although it doesn’t actually show my latest posts just my homepage. Seems a strange way to set it up.

If anyone else has experience in rectifying an issue like this, I would greatly appreciate the help.
