Change Header Image to Slider on Home Page

Hello,

I have tried using multiple slider plugins to change the static header image into a slider. However I can’t figure out where to place the shortcode or where to adjust the header.php without losing the page format.
Also on my other pages I have selected to use the featured images as the header and it works in the preview but when I hit publish it stays the same as the home page header.
I would appreciate help on this, thanks!
