Hi, in the description of this plugin it says:

Genesis Simple Menus you can set custom secondary menu for both visitors & logged in users in your BuddyPress content areas

Although I have not installed this plugin yet, I figured it might not be necessary since my Genesis theme is working perfectly with BP installed (theme: lifestyle).

But I am having trouble figuring out how to change the menu area for logged in or logged out users. Same issue with widgets.

How do I change the menu or widget area depending on if the user is logged in or out.

The function is built into GenesisConnect. You'll have to code something similar in your theme functions file.

I read the recent threads on this plugin about GC and BP1.7.

I'm wondering what other cool features I am missing out on if I choose to user BP 1.7 without GC. Before I spend the time integrating GC into my site I am hoping to learn more about it....

This feature mentioned above is obviously one of them. Are there anyone more features that GC offers that BP does not?

It gives you similar options if you have Simple Sidebars installed. The default Genesis layout setting is observed on the BP pages vs with theme compat your default Genesis layout setting has to be either content sidebar or sidebar content.
