yes, that sounds normal, this is because the account you use for testing in sandbox mode is not the same as the account you use in a live webshop. You cannot use the same account for both setups.
Just to be sure, I ran through this myself and it indeed jumps to the “connect” situation when you disable sandbox mode.

I think I responded too quickly, this might be an issue after all. We currently don’t have a live merchant account, so can only test on our sandbox account. However, when we switch the sandbox off and on, the account details remain in the system and we don’t have to fill in the details again.
