Support » Fixing WordPress » change domain-name of an existing blog

  • hello, i am a new member here. i have the following question:
a week ago i’ve published my first blog under the domain-name: The topic is about jamaican food. after that, i wanted to change the domain-name into something that fits to my blog. so i purchased another domainname called “”. What i did now: i logged in on my wordpress-dashboard and then “general settings” then i changed “WordPress Adress (URL)” and “Site Adress URL” into “”. Now the site doesn’t work anymore… when i want to go back to the wordpress-dashboard to change it back to old, it cannot find it anymore…do you have any idea why this doesn’t work ?

i simply wanted to change the domainname of my blog from “” to “”.

Can someone help me please.. i really dont know what to do now…

  • Hello. First of all you need to copy your files to the new domain directory on server (by the way, did you add it on server?). Then you must edit ‘siteurl’ and ‘home’ (both from wp_options) on database (through phpMyAdmin or similar).

After It would be nice to redirect the old domain to the new one.

    Oh… Thanks justingreerbbi.

sorry i dont get that, this is my first blog.. ok, i purchased a host by and did my blog under the domain do i have to log in to wordpress dashboard to copy the files.. the problem is, that i cannot go back to my wordpress-log-in. not even the log-in menu appears.. sorry im not really a professional.

You can do it on cpanel.
If you don’t know your login information, ask your host.

do i have to create a new blog (quickinstall / wordpress / etc… with the new domain.) and then i copy the files from file-manager (homedirectory)? or from where do i copy the files?
