Wondering if the plugin can be modified to stop changing the permission of the cache directory to 777. I really don’t like having directories with such an open permission. I have changed the permissions manually but the cron keeps forcing it to 777.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi James,

There may be a specific reason why the original authors of the plugin chose 0777 permissions for the cache folder.

We will have to do extensive testing of permissions on that folder to potentially modify them permanently in a future update.

I am not going to mark this topic as resolved, so that it will be considered during future updates.

    Sincerely,

    Brandon

Thanks for looking into this Brandon. Let me know if I can help test any changes.

Update: This is a quick note that we have this task in our list for an upcoming release of WP-Portfolio. We have to release the new version, with fixes, enhancements, and a new Grid feature within the next few months. Thank you!

Update: Looks like we can get away with 0755 permissions but nothing stricter. Once the updates are complete, we will fully test, but this is likely going to be the new default.

For posterity, I wanted to mention that we are finally close to releasing the next stable version of this plugin and have modified the default permissions to 0755. In thorough testing, we have found that some web hosts (usually “free” web hosts) will require 0777 permissions, but we feel these are edge cases and are very rare and not “Best Practices”.

Therefore, we will handle issues with any reported edge cases and move ahead with the stricter permissions.
