    Hello shakoor99,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand you want to add the currency symbol as an image.
For this, you will need to consult a professional developer who can help you write custom code that supports an image. You can find a good developer at Codeable.io or WooExperts.

Having said that, I recommend using a character for SAR. I realize this symbol was introduced recently and there might not be a character available yet, but once it is available, start using the character.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards.

When will the currency code be updated? I hope those in charge update it as soon as possible.

    Hi @shakoor99,

Thanks for reaching out about the updated Saudi Riyal currency symbol.

The new symbol is planned for official inclusion in Unicode 17.0, which is expected to be finalized in September 2025. Once it’s officially supported at the system level (including font support and formatting standards), WooCommerce will be able to integrate it fully in a future release.

In the meantime, if you’d like to start using the new symbol right away, you can use the following plugin, which adds it to your WooCommerce store:

Please review the message included to find out why the plugin has been discontinued. Let the developer know that this has become a bit confusing. We’re tracking the progress closely here:

I mean that I stopped this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/saudi-riyal-symbol-for-woocommerce/ because of a problem that appeared in Google and stopped displaying products in ads because of the currency symbol that Google did not recognize it and this matter caused great confusion for us and therefore it must be noted to people that the plugin that changes the currency symbol will cause the products to be stopped and make Google confused about this symbol .. If you enter the warehouse you will see my comment on the problem .. Thank you for your response in record time to reply

    Hi there!

Thank you for the clarification and for sharing your experience, this is really valuable for others who might face the same issue.

As you mentioned, using the Saudi Riyal Symbol for WooCommerce plugin to change the currency symbol caused Google to stop displaying your products in ads. This is due to the fact that the custom SAR symbol is not yet officially recognized in Unicode, which leads to compatibility issues on platforms like Google Merchant Center.

Once the new symbol is officially approved in Unicode, Google will also recognize it too. Thanks again for bringing this to light and don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything else we can help with.
