Support » Plugin: WordPress Gallery Plugin - NextGEN Gallery » Change backup image file path to use prefix and retain file extension?

  • hi,

    We’re running NextGen 2.2.12, WordPress 4.8.1

    We’ve enabled the “Other Options >> Image Options >> Backup the original images” option in order to store large size file while providing web friendly file via the “Automatically resize images after upload” option.

    It would really useful if the backup file-name’s additional text was prepended instead of appended. For example: “backup_image.jpg” instead of “image.jpg_backup” We want to be able to send folks url to the large file with the file extension intact.

    Found where we can hack, but of course that’s not best practice:

    File: nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_data/package.module.nextgen_data.php
    line 800 $image_path . ‘_backup’
    line 3163 $image_path . ‘_backup’

    File: nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/admin/manage.php
    line 348 $picture->imagePath . ‘_backup’

    thanks!

    @roger995 – The premise was to follow a more common approach to creating a backup file while also not making them blatantly obvious as image files as well.

    We would not recommend making the changes as you are suggesting as they are not update friendly and we are not likely to change how this particular feature set works as it ties into other areas of the plugin as well.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
