Yeah, i had thought 41 queries is a lot too... I do have a lot of plugins... these are the ones i am using:
Blogtimes, Condensed Content for Date and Category Archives, On this Day, Related Posts, WP Statistics, StatTraq, Subscribe to Comments, TimeSince, Usersonline, WeatherReport, & WP Free-Stats. In addition, my friend wrote a hack to increment page view displays for individual entries.
Does this sound normal for all these plugins?

Yeah, for that many things certainly doesn't sound off.
I've tuned CHAITGEAR to be around high-teens/low-20s generally, though as I add more customization it'll go up. Generally shooting to stay in the low to mid 20s though. But, that's just me and my site. ;)
Anyhow, let me know when you get the PowerPack installed, and get to try it out.

ANYONE USING CG-AMAZON will want to grab the newest CG-PowerPack, now up to 1.0b14.
Major fixes were made for bugs which were causing extended/long queries, especially in the new Admin interface 'Search' function.

    Heh! ;)
Gee, maybe I should spend a few months writing an auto-updater system that can detect when it is out of date from code on CHAITGEAR and download the latest incarnations... yeah, right!
I have considered other options, such as going whole-hog GPL and hosting things on sourceforge or something, or at the least putting stuff into version control (CVS or maybe subversion) if I could find a site to host it, so that people could more easily 'refresh' files.
I certainly hope by now I'm doing a pretty good job of isolating configuration stuff from the main code, so that tweaks don't require merging or anything. Let me know if I've missed things along the way that'd make life easier.
Oh, and I AM still thinking about a templating system for CG-Amazon and CG-Feedread that'd let 'power users' basically have complete stylized output control. I'm just trying to figure out how to do it without it becoming a headache down the line (i.e., easy to use, maintain, and not something people will be breaking left and right...).

Just an update, for people watching this thread specifically.
b15 was up a few days ago -- barring download hiccups. Has a number of continued improvements.
At Alex Jones' request/suggestion, already working on b16 with some added enhancements:
    - option to disable 'target' in links
    - 'proper' closing of img tags
    - new 'SmallMedium' image size support (when available)
If anyone else has things they were waiting on, let me know here, or the Extending CG-Amazon thread, or the CG-PowerPack thread. ;) Thanks!

I continually keep getthing this error :(

    Amazon:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: show_amazon_items() in /home/bball2/public_html/ash/index.php on line 140

    Edit:
Slaps himself on the wrist, how silly of me forgot to activate the plugin =P. Great plugin!

All though I got a few links to be working around 90% of the ids I try I get this error

Result = [ERROR_QUERYING_AMAZON] in a green background at the top of the cga-admin page.

    Any Ideas?

Anyone have any luck getting CG-Amazon to work with WordPress 1.5? I got it working on my 1.2 install, but when I add the CGA to the admin menu and click on it all I get is a blank page. Is there another way to manually create the tables in the WP database? Thanks in advance.

I wasn't going to work on 1.5 compatability until it was close to coming out, and it was just released... silly me. ;)

I will TRY to get some work done on this in the next day or so. I have a complete CG-PowerPack running against a 1.5a from December, so it may just require a newer version.

Aack. I love CG Power Pack and have it installed on my 1.2.2 WP blog. I was going to upgrade this weekend, but I'll stand pat until the features I "can't live without" (e.g., Chaitgear plugins, Backup/Restore, Text Replace, to name a few) can (as Uma Thurman's character said in the movie "Pulp Fiction") "catchup." Catchup.

trying, trying. unfortunately, excepting the little trickles of $ from amazon pass-through sales, I'm not making any earnings from the extensive work on plugins. Thus, my paying work must take precedence... ;)

But I'm trying to get to it... gimme a day or two to get organized around here.

I don't mean to rush you at all, but is there any estimation on when you will get this plugin 1.5 compatible? I'm all set to upgrade from 1.2 to 1.5 as soon as I get this updated plugin. Thanks again.

I get the following error after adding an ASIN:

    CRITICAL FAILURE: Amazon cache directory
    [/home/gldnspce/public_html/wp-content/plugins/cg-plugins/cache_amazon/] doesn't exist!

I can't locate the amazon_cache. Am I to create that myself? What am I doing wrong?

I just created the cache directory, so all is well. How can I change how links display? I'd rather it didn't display the date. And can I change it so it reads "What I'm Reading" instead of "Amazon"?

Ummm, BIG issue if the directory wasn't there... It should have been there, just empty. What zip are you using?

If you don't care to show any extra data beyond title/manufacturer (i.e., pricing data, anything else that 'changes' over time), in cga-config.php uncomment the line:
    //$amazonMinimumData = true;

    That'll nix the timestamps.

You can change the code to read whatever you'd like for the title of the list -- should just be change "Amazon" to whatever you want. ;)

I'm using the cg-amazon plugin and it seems to cause a problem with my comments and passwords. Upon entering a comment or password for protected post the comments-post.php/wp-pass.php show with a blank page. When I deactive cg-amazon, all is well again. I'd hate to remove the plugin. Any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks.

Again, I'm more than a bit concerned you had no cache folder -- but maybe you didn't upload the cg-plugins folder in one copy? (which would have included the subfolders...)

I'll try to take a look at protected posts right now -- don't know what could possibly be interacting between the two as CG-Amazon is generally 'passive' until called upon. Do you have any other special plugins running? It could be CG-Amazon is actually 'colliding' with another plugin, thus causing the issue. But I'll go test some things out -- sounds like it should be immediately obvious.

I just tried a password protected post. It shows up with a password-entry field in place of the content, I entered the password, clicked the button, the post text shows up. This is with pretty much ALL my plugins active...

I tried in FF logged in as admin, and in IE not logged in. Both entering PW and comment worked fine.

What build of WP are you using, and what other plugins do you have active? Have you tried turning off other plugins to see if you can find a conflict with CG-Amazon? Feel free to take this offline at cgcode at chait dot net with more details, we can always post the end solution here. ;)

My mistake. I didn't realize I posted my problem in this thread, not the other. I thought maybe I hadn't submitted it. :-( The cache issue was probably my doing. I may not have uploaded the cg-plugins folder in one copy (I don't remember). I've decided to use the plug on a separate page instead of the sidebar. All seems to be well again. Thanks again!

If you could prove out whether there's a custom plugin you have installed that is conflicting with CG-Amazon and causing the problem, it'd be good to know and fix -- if it's something I'm in a position to fix. ;)

    Thanks!

There probably is a custom plugin that's the cause. The same problem occured again. I've installed/reinstalled several times (each time the cache directory wasn't created). I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong--if I have to do more than drop a plugin in the plugin folder and activate, most likely something goes wrong. :-( I'm just a little frustrated at this point. Maybe I'll try it again somewhere down the road.

how are you copying files up? With most FTP programs, you can just point it to the source plugins directory, the destination plugins directory, and either copy one to the other, or select all inside the first and batch copy to the other.

If you'd like help debugging further, I'm more than happy to... cgcode at chait dot net is the best place to reach me direct.
