Try switching to the default theme, deactivating all plugins excluding Contact Form 7, WP Mail SMTP and Yoast SEO, and clearing all cache data.
Why you are advised to deactivate plugins and switch to the default theme.
Takayuki, I think that what Dmytro said is right. CF7 5.4 is not compatible with cache plugins.
When I disable MMR and WP-Super-Cache it works good.
If I re-enable them, I wait some time and the problem comes back.
This is a big issue that needs to be Documented in your website.
Also you should fix it, and if you do not want to fix it, at least say what other plugins that are not CF7 you suggest to replace CF7 with. Or you just say which files to exclude.
I’m seeing the same error, using nginx page caching.
The error I see is the same as the original poster.
I have cleared all my cache on the server and in the browser, I have turned off all security plugins and still I’m seeing the issue.
I have to revert back to the previous version (5.32) of Contactform 7 to get my forms to work.
Would appreciate some assistance in getting this working.

i have the same problem. When i clear all cache , not stop the WP Fastest Cache , then Contact Form 7 work well , but one day later , Contact Form 7 can not work. This condition i test for 3 days , every day is this condition. I clear cache in WP Fastest Cache , it work well , but about 1 day later , have new Cache in WP fASTEST cACHE , it not work.
If the version 5.3.2 can still work and safe ? If still work and safe , maybe we can still use it bedore this verison 5.4 problem be solved.
We have big pressure every day , because we can not recieve email and inquiry from our customer. Hope Contact Form 7 plugin author can solve this problem
I have the same problem since about two weeks ago. Every single day the contact form stops.. spinning…. After clearing the cache it works well, but for one day only 🙁
i still have the problem too. only a rollback to 5.3.2 helped me.
which cache plugin are you using?
maybe it would make sense to exclude the page with the form from the cache plugin.
but that’s not an actual solution, that’s just dirty.
Same cache problem across multiple client websites (have experienced the issue with clients using WP-Optimize, WP Fastest Cache and Hummingbird).
Rolling back to 5.3.2 helps BUT the ajax-loader.gif is no longer appearing causing multiple form submissions as customers think the forms not working. Anyone any ideas on how to get this back?
A month or so ago everything was rosy. Now? An absolute nightmare.
I sincerely hope the plugin author fixes this ASAP.
i also did the rollback (the only solution) but i don’t have the problem with the ajax-loader.gif.
maybe because my forms are created with cf7 skins.
i have a normal success-message under the form, that’s enough for me.
much more important is a solution to the problem, otherwise we will still have version 5.3.2 in 4 years.
@takayukister will the Author fix this problem that started to happen to hundreds of thousands of people that are using cache plugins?
Where most of people and businesses still didn’t notice that their contact forms are not working anymore…

version 5.4.1 works for me.
i think, because i tested a lot, the problem was a “content/script blocker”.
for me “borlabs cookies”. the shortcode from borlabs worked until version 5.3.2, but not anymore from version 5.4.
I removed the blocker and everything works with the new cf7.
