CF7 Not Working with Safari (version 26.0.1)

I had trouble using the contact form with Safari yesterday, and thought it was due to Safari ad-blocker extension, but having removed that, the problem has reappeared.

After form submission, the spinner revolves endlessly.

Works fine on Google Chrome for macOS.

If it’s any help, the browser console reports a 403 failure to load a resource, but including a directory which does not exist in WordPress, like:

https://www.example.com/wp-json/contact-form-7/v1/contact-forms/72/feedback

I don’t know of any WordPress directory called “wp-json”.

Try switching to the default theme, deactivating all plugins excluding Contact Form 7, Akismet Anti-spam, Classic Editor and Yoast SEO, and clearing all cache data.

Why you are advised to deactivate plugins and switch to the default theme.

That debugging would have been a mammoth task since the problem was not only intermittent but affected all contact forms on many sites.

Fortunately however I’m pretty certain that the cause is the use of a particular Safari extension. I’m alerting the extension developers to look into it.

Scratch that about the Safari extension: I disabled and deleted it, rebooted and I still get intermittent contact form spinners. They’re the exception, not the rule, but they always come at some point.

But why only on Safari browser I don’t know (which to me kind of rules out plug-in conflicts).
