Support » Plugin: Contact Form 7 » CF7 impact on pagespeed insights

  • I’ve been doing a bit of work on improving PageSpeed Insights scores for some of our websites and found that adding CF7 with Recaptcha (V3) takes the score from 95 down to between 45 and 50. I basically took a clean install of WordPress with the twentytwenty theme and added CF7 with Recaptcha to get this result.

Is there a reason why the JS scripts aren’t deferred or loaded asynchronously? They seem to be having a really heavy impact on the score and it feels like it’s a fairly easy fix.

As well as other plugins loading their script files, Contact Form 7 only calls wp_enqueue_script(). Making script loading defer or async is not in contact form plugin’s territory.

Thanks for the reply. The only plugin I have on this test site (apart from classic editor) is contact form 7, and just activating that, with the standard twentytwenty theme reduces the pagespeed score from 95 to 50.

Given that it has such an negative impact, is there any reason why you wouldn’t set it to defer or async? You can do it with script_loader_tag.
