certain images won’t upload

OK, things just seem to be going from bad to worse. Besides from the fact that my archives, categories, and search bar don’t work, suddenly I now find I can upload certain jpegs but not others to a post

I get this error message Warning: imagecreatefromjpeg()

any ideas? All the images are jpegs but it refuses to upload certain ones
