Support » Fixing WordPress » Certain elements not working in WordPress Dashboard

  • Hi,

I’ve been using WordPress without problems for about a year and a half. My hosting company is Stablehost and recently I’ve noticed some issues:

    1) Any installations or updates to plugins, themes, etc remain in the ‘working’ mode and don’t give any message that they’re completed. The page just stays in the updating stage with the “spinner” icon going round. I have to leave the page and go to the respective section to see that the installation/update is complete.

    2) I’m no longer seeing the edit or delete icons appear over images in the post/page editor.

    3) Some plugins don’t display their icons by their name on the left sidebar and certain components such as checkboxes don’t always appear. I enabled debugging mode and checked these elements from one particular plugin (Acunetix WP Security) in the console, finding that the checkboxes and icons are delivering a 403 error.

Firstly I reinstalled WordPress to see if this fixed the problems but it didn’t. Then I noticed that all these problems occur across each installation for all my domains on this host and not just one particular installation.

This doesn’t appear to be a problem with WordPress itself as I have installed WordPress on another host and all the functionality is there without any problems. It’s only on Stablehost where I’m experiencing these issues, whether it be on long-established sites or brand new, clean installations.

I have contacted Stablehost in the first instance and they insist that there is nothing wrong server-side. However, they have asked that I ask at WordPress.org to see if there’s something that you guys may know of that Stablehost needs to change at their end to address these issues.

    Thanks in advance,
    Glenn

  • This sounds like a server configuration issue – sometimes caused by a failure to compile PHP with cUrl. Ask your hosts about that.

    Hi Esmi,

Thanks very much for that info. I shall suggest it to them and post back with the results.

    Regards.
