Support » Fixing WordPress » Centering the Theme

  • I am a newbie. I was trying to create space between my customized header and the Menu Bar. I went into the CSS but apparently the Twenty-ten Theme does not allow that to be changed. When I went back to viewing my site – my site displays with the Pages to the far left, not centred anymore. Since i am designing a site for a client on Twenty-Ten too, I checked the CSS on his site and on mine to find the discrepancy but everything appears the same. Is there a fix to get my Theme to be centred again? Any help is much appreciated.

  • Because I can’t see your page or inspect it, I suggest you to
    1. download and use a random theme (through admin panel)
    2. delete twenty-ten theme
    3. download it again (through admin panel)
    4. use it!

Alternative: if you only changed the style.css only extract that again and upload that again

Thank you both for your recommendations. I have actually solved the problem. I copied the CSS from my client’s Twenty-ten Theme and pasted it into my CSS on my site and it has corrected the problem. I wasn’t sure how to extract only the CSS file off of the Twenty-Ten Theme. Question: if I had removed Twenty-Ten from my Themes and then installed it again, wouldn’t that have wiped out all my content and customizations? Pls advise.

If you are not using a child theme of Twentyten you will LOSE all your changes the next time WP is upgraded.
Make a child theme, DO NOT customize the default twentyten theme, you’ll be sorry.

    child theme

To be clear, all the customizations I have made have been with widgets, the header, etc. in the Dashboard -if I haven’t changed anything in the CSS code then the upgrades wouldn’t touch anything – is that correct?
