  • Can you post a link to your site? There is no way to help otherwise. This would just be general CSS, unless your theme is doing something unique.

Please link directly to a relevant page and let me know what you are trying to do.

I’m trying to center everything under the page header that is centered.

    Thank you so much!

I think the theme had a sidebar but it allowed me to choose to do full screen which I choose, so I’m not sure if that is why I’m having an issue or not.

    No problem at all.

The first thing I am noticing is that the sidebar is actually not removed. It just doesn’t have any widgets in it. http://glui.me/?i=ho4w6gibh1dpbx5/2016-03-10_at_1.21_PM.png/

Is there a setting built into the theme for removing the sidebar or did you just remove all widgets?

I guess I just removed all the widgets? Is there a css code to remove the sidebar totally?

There is an option on the blog area to choose full width (no sidebar) as well as in the single post area you can choose full width (no sidebar) which I selected on both so I thought I was ok.

I posted those on a page – which I was thinking that was considered a single post but maybe not. That isn’t a post within my blog because on the homepage it doesn’t show the full blog post, just the title and I don’t like that. I am clearly VERY new to all of this. So thanks for helping!

    No worries at all.

The thing is, though, this will require custom development if the settings are not built into the theme for removing the sidebar. Removing the widgets is not enough.

Unfortunately, I can’t really navigate through your site to see what is going on. There are no links anywhere for navigate. Looking that the HTML markup suggests that you’ve created a WordPress page and then used the settings to make that page your site’s static from page.

Is that correct? If so, and you are saying there is a setting for making pages full width, can you show me a screenshot of the setting (screenshot the entire page)?

Yeah this webpage is supposed to be SUPER basic. I just need it to be one page with the videos on it and nothing else. I don’t want a menu or anything. If I knew how to write code I could just do something from scratch and it would probably be way easier.

It won’t let me past the image in here – do you have an email I can send it to?

well I have totally messed things up now – I tried deleting some css code that I thought would get rid of the sidebar and now it won’t even let me go back in the admin panel to add the part in I erased. CRAP.

    Hi there,

My advice would be to either find a theme that better fits your needs right out of the box or hire someone for a quick development session. The first option is probably best… there are plenty of themes available for your choosing.

Simply removing CSS or other elements from the theme will fail most of the time. There are more things to consider than just one state of the site. While you may be able to remove something so it looks okay on desktop, it may look crappy on mobile. So please avoid that if you are not familiar with code.

If you are still locked out of your site because of whatever error you have, log into your FTP account provided by your host. From the root of your website folder, navigate to wp-content/themes/ and find the shamrock/ folder. Rename that folder to anything other than what it is currently called. I like to do shamrock-x/. This will break the activation and WordPress will deactivate the theme and activate another. That will allow you to get back into your dashboard, assuming an error in shamrock is what locked you out.

Then do not reactivate shamrock. Delete the one you’ve edited and reinstall it from scratch. All of your settings/options should still be in place.
