CDN support is broken on WordPress Multisite sub-sites

  • Hi,

I’ve tested the new version only on a WordPress MultiSite setup and while it works in the default main blog – it does not on the sub-sites.

Any news / fix on that one? In my case the default site is the least important and CDN is a must for all other to serve all the content.

Appreciate any help on this as fast as possible.

  • The current version is working fine on my 2 site multisite with domain mapping. I’ve been using W3TC with multisite for almost 2 years. I use the self-hosted CDN setup on both sites- working fine.

What is your setup? Did you activate it individually for each site? W3TC should not be network activated. there does seem to be a little glitch with activating the current version in that sometimes it doesn’t really activate on the first attempt and has to be re-activated.

Hi, thanks for responding so fast 😉

Yes – I activated W3TC Individually on each site. I have the sub-sites set up as folders.

the main blog is at – subdomain.domain.com

    and the sub-sites are at – subdomain.domain.com/subsite001, subdomain.domain.com/subsite002, etc…

Is domain mapping a must here for this too work?

No, domain mapping is not required.

Is this your first time using W3TC? When you say is doesn’t work on the sub-sites, what exactly do you mean? That the CDN function is not working? How are your CDNs set up?

If the main blog is at – subdomain.domain.com, what is the parent domain?

You have the sub-sites set up as folders. Please explain. Sub-sites should be set up as sub-domains or sub-directories.

There is a very good tutorial here.

Here is a good tutorial on setting up a subdomain CDN.

More info is needed to diagnose this….

I been using W3TC for 2 years no on a single blog site with no special problems.

The problem now is when I activate the CDN feature using MAXCDN and setup like I know and works on my single blog and also on the Multisite main blog the site show up not using the CSS and without images…

It also seems it does not minify properly too.

And I meant sub-directories when I wrote folders 😉 sorry. My main site is setup as a subdomain and all the subsites are sub-directories on it.

I’ll check you links – thanks for adding those

My main site is setup as a subdomain and all the subsites are sub-directories on it.

That may be your problem. What is your main site a subdomain of?

I assume all your sites work with W3TC disabled? Setting Minify Mode to manual under general settings might help with the missing CSS, but you’ve got to get your CDNs set up right.

Main site setup as a subdomain should not be a problem at all.

I have the same problem with the latest version
On two other multisite installations as subdomains I have no problems. The one with subsites as sub-directories has problems: accessing dashboard, htaccess complaints AND most important is uses huge resources.
With no problems. I disabled W3TC and will try downgrading.

Thanks, How do one go about downgrading?

Uninstall then upload manually the previous version? I hope this could be obtained somewere…

Ok.. Downgraded and same problem. I think this must ve related to how I setup my domain names / CNAME / ETC…

Could use some pin point help on this. I think using a subdomain as the main multisite URL is the problem here.

If your main installation is on a subdomain and the various sites are just in directories on that subdomain, then you are not using the subdomain option. If you were it would look like subsubdomain.subdomain.domain.com

I know – I use sub directories for my sub sites.

Still looking for a solution here… site runs faster without w3tc then with it even with the cdn option off. using pingdom for testing this. both main site and subsites are faster the they are with w3tc.

Which CDN are you using? I have Rackspace Files and it works pretty well.

Can anyone who’s having issues on some of their sites and not others please submit a bug submission form from the support tab of the plugin so I can learn more / investigate?
