Support » Plugin: JW Player for Flash & HTML5 Video » CDN support in JW 6

  • JW player 6 is not allowing me to serve files from the amazon cloudfront CDN using the w3 cache plugin.
W3 replaces the root domain of the URL and uses the URL to host the files.
The JW player 5 plugin does allow serving files through amazon cloudfront.

I reverted to the JW player 5 plugin, but I would like to upgrade to version 6.

Does the Plugin support this sort of CDN setup?

I don’t know exactly how W3 cache works. You say it does work with JW Player 5 plugin and not with 6?

We would have to look into this. It seems that this should work, but I don’t know the ins and outs.

I have the Jw5 plugin working well with W3cache and CDN to host all of the media on this site:

    <script type='text/javascript'>jwplayer('jwplayer-1').setup({"flashplayer":"","width":"220","height":"24","controlbar":"bottom","dock":"false","autostart":"false","icons":"true","playlist.position":"none","playlistsize":"180","repeat":"none","shuffle":"false","bufferlength":"1","smoothing":"true","stretching":"uniform","wmode":"opaque","mute":"false","volume":"90","screencolor":"#fff","backcolor":"#fff","frontcolor":"","lightcolor":"","item":"0","provider":"","streamer":"","mediaid":"4258","image":"","file":"","title":"kalima16","creator":"","author":"","date":"2013-02-13 21:08:53","description":"","modes":[{"type":"html5","config":{"streamer":"","provider":""}},{"type":"flash","src":""},{"type":"download","config":{"streamer":"","provider":""}}]});</script></p>

I am in development on and can switch it between JW player 6 and 5. I would be happy to help get you the information you need.

Here are the outputs of the JW 5 plugin vs the JW 6 plugin when used on this page:
JW player 5 plugin output (This works with the CDN. Note the cloud front URL before the mp3 file):

    <meta property='og:type' content='movie' /><meta property='og:video:width' content='' /><meta property='og:video:height' content='' /><meta property='og:video:type' content='application/x-shockwave-flash' /><meta property='og:title' content='01 Job Az FI' /><meta property='og:description' content='' /><meta property='og:image' content='' /><meta property='og:video' content='' /><style type="text/css" media="print">#wpadminbar { display:none; }</style>

JW 6 output (note the lack of cloudfront url in the mp3 file:)

    <div class='jwplayer' id='jwplayer-0'></div><script type='text/javascript'>jwplayer('jwplayer-0').setup({"image":"http:\/\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/scripture-photo.jpg","file":"http:\/\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/01-Job-Az-FI.mp3"});

Thanks for the debugging info. Can you tell me what shortcodes you used to embed this video? Both for version 5 and 6. Or did you use the same?

If you’ve used a shortcode with a mediaid (or in other words, you’ve ingested the media from the media manager), can you tell me how you’ve added this item to the media library.

I’m trying to reproduce this error on our testing server.

    Thanks for your quick response.

I would be happy to provide more information or follow test steps if you have recommendations.

Here is a screen capture video of my upload process.

I’m adding the media by creating a new wordpress post, Clicking “add media” and uploading a file through the media library overlay.

    Working configuration:
    Wordpress 3.5.0
JW Player Plugin for WordPress Version 1.7.1
    W3 Total Cache Version
    [jwplayer config=”Video-player” mediaid=”5391″]

    Not Working:
    Wordpress 3.5.1
JW Player Plugin for WordPress Version 2.0.5 (when I reverted back to 1.7.1 the CDN started working)
    W3 Total Cache Version
    [jwplayer mediaid=”40″]

Thanks for the elaborate information. I will investigate it an hopefully we can fix it in the next update.

Any progress on allowing JW 6 to work with the Amazon’s Cloudfront CDN with w3 total cache?

w3 total cache usually replaces the url prefix (probably using cURL), but the jw player 6 plugin doesn’t let it.

This page contains the same mp3 twice, one in the player and one as a link. w3 cache has rewritten the second link to point to the CDN.

This page has the same mp3 file playing in the JW 5 Player and the CDN url works!

Here is the code from the page called cdn-test. Media was uploaded using the media library uploader.

Your JW6 MP3 link plays for me.
