Causing massive CPU load

  • Hi,

I just installed Relevanssi and within 3 minutes the ‘mysqld’ process was at 216% CPU and my site started timing out.

How much traffic can the plugin handle?

    No idea =)

How large is your site, how much traffic you have?

Something similar is happening with me. After installing plugin (cache disabled, remember the issue I complained about earlier?) the cpu load doubled, from 0.62 to 1.30 and continues to be the same. Any suggestion to reduce cpu load?

I don’t know… I have no access to CPU load data on any of my sites, so unfortunately I can’t do much to fix it without any feedback.

I do know Relevanssi Premium should be much lighter on the database. Drop me an e-mail to mikko at mikkosaari.fi and I’ll give you Premium so you can try it and let me know if that’s any better. If it is, I’ll have to get some of those performance upgrades to the free version as well.

If you want I can give you cpu specific information but you’ll have to be patient. I don’t know much about VPS šŸ™‚

Relevanssi was updated today (June 21st).

Quote: “Iā€™m sorry to report 2.9.2 was a buggy update. It had a very small bug ā€” just an add_action() call to a non-existing function ā€” with very large consequences. Fortunately nothing permanent, so a quick upgrade to 2.9.3 will fix this”.

I’m sometimes helping a family member with her WordPress site. Today her website showed much higher memory usage than normally. I noticed she had installed a new plugin (Relevanssi). I also noticed high cpu-usage (never seen that before). After the upgrade, things seem back to normal.

Unfortunately Mikko did not notify you in this thread (which probably got the ball rolling). And he doesn’t find it necessary to tell his users exactly what went wrong, and what the symptoms are. That stuff helps users to find the problem, so they can fix it. Even if it would make googling easier. Keeping your users updated is the first step towards keeping your users happy.

All good for me too now. Thanks.

Well, I had no idea this problem was caused by the 2.9.2 bug. I thought this was earlier… Well, good to hear it works now.

Sorry but for me the problem persists despite updating to latest version šŸ™

Ok, drop me an email to mikko at mikkosaari.fi and I’ll give you Premium to try, I’d like to see if that helps at all.
