• I am using Dyad 2. On posts, I cannot get the category tag (News), to show above the post title.

In the Content Options I have ticked Display Categories. I disabled all plugins, but that did not make a difference.

I also temporarily stripped out the child theme CSS to ensure nothing was hiding the category tag.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi there,

Are you sure you’ve added the category, news, to your posts from within the editor? If I try to view the category archive page at https://www.stopbyinworthing.co.uk/category/news it gives a Page not found error, meaning there aren’t any posts published with that category.

The page at https://www.stopbyinworthing.co.uk/news/ is your site’s posts page as specified in the Customizer and will show all posts published on your site, regardless of category.

    Hi,

Thank you for highlighting the page not found for the category archive page.

It turns out I had not filled in the optional details in the permalinks settings. I have now added “category” and “tag” and the category archive page now shows.

However, the category News still refuses to show above the post titles.
I have attached a link to screen shots that show the current setup:

    Update:

OK, category name is now showing. If you only have posts within one category, the category name won’t show up on single posts. If you add a post to another category, for instance to Uncategorized, the category name will show. Kind of logical if you only want posts only in one category but not nice if you actually wish to highlight the category name on your posts.

After a lot of Googling I found this information here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/content-options/

The problem is that if I put a dummy post in another category, purely to force the category name to show up, the post which I don’t want visitors to see, shows up on the blog page.

The way round that (in case anyone else wishes to do this), is explained here:

    https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-exclude-a-category-from-your-wordpress-homepage/

I used a plugin called Code Snippets to achieve this.

Thanks for the screen shots. I can see the category showing above your post title now, though:

Did you manage to figure it out?

If it’s not visible to you, it might be a caching issue, so please check if clearing your browser cache or viewing your site in an incognito session makes any difference.

If you’re expecting to see the category displayed somewhere else, please let me know.

I did, your post crossed with my solution!

    That’s excellent 🙂

    Thanks for letting me know.
