Hello Everyone at the Support Department of Filter Everything,

Firstly, I’d like to congratulate you for the outstanding filter you’ve built.
I tested other 2 before and yours is the best I’ve experienced, by far.

We operate an online bookstore that will be launched next week. On our store, we’d like for users to jump from one category to another using the category selector within Filter Everything. This is easily accomplished when users get to the store via its URL (https://bookflow.cl/tienda/) and from there, select their desired categories of interest using the category selector on the left hand side.

However, when users select a desired category from the Categories dropdown menu located on the navigation bar, in spite of them being taken to the desired category selected, Filter Everything’s category selector on the left hand side doesn’t allow them to select other categories available on the store. The selector only showcases the category previously selected by the user on the dropdown menu.

This said, we’d like to know if there’s a way to customize/modify the category selector within the plugin so that when users arrive to their desired category via the Categories dropdown menu on the navigation bar, when they select the category selector, they’re also able to see the rest of the categories inside that dropdown menu.

I’ve recorded a brief 4-min video explaining this situation which you can watch here:

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks,
    Christian

    Hi @christianshb

Thank you for the crystal clear explanation of the issue and how you would like it to behave.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The filter only works on the current page. For example, if you are on the “cars” page, it will display terms in the category filter related only to the products shown on that page and will filter items only within that context. It will not redirect you to other categories.

For category tree/navigation, you can use the default product categories widget. This widget does not apply filters but instead provides a list of links that redirect you to the selected category page when clicked. Or you can use a custom shortcode that includes all product category links. When a category is selected, it will simply redirect to that category’s page. This is a simple shortcode, so any AI model can easily write you an excellent solution from the first prompt.

    Hi Victor,
Thanks for your prompt and comprehensive reply.

I appreciate the advice and tips you provided.
For the time being, I’ve decided to follow through with the product widget option being added on top of Filter Everything’s filters on the shop page.

I’m not familiar with creating shortcodes with AI and therefore cannot implement this solution as yet.
Could you provide any insights into how to approach this that I can pass on to our developer?

Thanks for your outstanding customer service and let me know where can I leave a 5-star review covering this.

    Thanks,
    Christian

    Hi @christianshb

If you already have a developer, you can simply ask him to create a dropdown (or any other view that you like) that has all category links as options in the form of a shortcode (so you can place it anywhere on your page). When you select the required category from the dropdown, it should simply direct you to the selected category page. You can place this next to the filters and name it something like “Category Navigation” rather than “Category Filtering.” For the UI/UX features, this will make it less confusing for users.
