Support » Fixing WordPress » category name vs. Tags

  • Hi *,

    I have a category name ‘Foto Grafie’ in my photography blog at That works fine so far. However, when I want to use the word ‘Fotografie’ (without the space) in my Tags, wordpress allways switches that to ‘Foto Grafie’. Is that a bug or a feature?

  • What version of WP are you running? Are you using Ultimate Tag Warrior or something else?

    I’m using WP 2.3.3, no Tag Warrior or another tags plugin, just the WP default tags functionality.

    I can see that WP changes the tag whithin the Editor and at the website. For the tags output at the page I use:
    <?php the_tags(‘Tags: ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘<br ⁄>’); ?>

    Is anyone able to reproduce this behaviour?

    Hmm…nice support. :..(

    Sorry, no problems with my setup. I use the “Simple Tags” plugin, I don’t know if that makes any difference. Besides, categories and tags have little to do with eachother as far as I know, so these two shouldn’t conflict. What you describe could be caused by the fact that you have tag named “Foto Grafie” and with the standard WP changes similar-looking tags.

    I had the same problem as mightymikey. In fact, if I used just the first word of a category name as a tag name, then wp filled in the rest of the tag name and made it identical to the existing category.

    God bless you, the first guy with the same problem. 😉

    And what was your solution???

    I have the same problem on a client’s site. She is trying to create a tag called “writing” but it keeps getting changed to “Writing samples” which is a category. At least I know what the problem is now! Although I don’t know what the solution is, other than telling her she can’t use “writing” as the name of a tag.
