Category name as same name as post type

Is it possible to have a post’s category name the same as a CPT?

I’m running into an issue where I have 2 different pieces of content for the same ‘type’ of thing.

I have written articles that reside in the default post structure and in an ‘events’ category.

I have an ‘events’ custom post type that does not have categories in the slug, so it just reads as site.com/events/event-name.

I wish to have the articles portion be site.com/articles/events/event-article-name where as ‘articles’ would be a base for only editorial content and ‘events’ in this url is actually a category.

I know there are all sorts of issues with things being named the same, however I thought this could be avoided by appending category bases etc.

Is this possible?
