Category ID?

    In the settings I chose to show the cats by ID. Since I have set this up I have added a couple categories. I really want to change the way they are sorted. I could go in and change each slug, by something like putting a number in front or something similar, but it would be much easier if I could go in and change the cat Id.

    But I cannot find it anywhere. So, where can I find the id and where can I change it? It seems very silly to have an id that cannot be accessed or changed…..

    Category IDs cannot be changed. They’re unique and are assigned in order and cannot be changed.

    You could change an ID by editing the mySQL Database directly. However, I would not recommend editing the mySQL Database.

    Not having a way to easily change the order is beyond me. I did go in and add “01-” “02-” etc to the beginning of the slug then sorted that way. But there needs to be an easy way to change the order. Do you think people would not ever want to add a new cat and decide where they want it to go in the list? Something as simple as putting a field for “order” and choosing a number. I know that bbPress for example uses this in their setup for how you want the boards displayed…..

    As I said before, it just seems very strange to me to not expect someone to need to change the order of the cats or want to add a new cat…..

    The Slug idea was great! Did you figure out how to implement this into the search widget?

    Honestly, there are other things I have been working on. I have not even tried…
