Support » Plugin: Enhanced Media Library » Category filter (not Media Category filter) stopped working (again)

    Hi,

I’m having the same problem with the 2.4 upgrade as I did with one of the 2.3.x upgrades.

Specifically, the Category filter (not Media Category filter) doesn’t work when adding featured image to a new WordPress Post. It’s available and notes the number of images associated with each Category, but the filter mechanism doesn’t work at all — it simply displays all images, regardless of assigned Category, in reverse chronological order.

    I self-host running PHP 7.0.14 and MySQL 5.7.17 on OS X.

    Please advise.

    Hi Michael,

This time I cannot reproduce the issue. Would you mind to provide access to you particular installation in order I was able to test the issue? If so, please contact me at wpuxsolutions [at] gmail [dot] com

    Best,
    -Nadia

    Nadia,

    Thanks for the quick response

I took another pass at resolving this on my own:

    HERE’S WHAT I DID:

    1. WP-Dashboard > Plugins > Enhanced Media Library > Utility
    2. Clicked the Delete All Data & Deactivate button
    3. Deleted the Enhanced Media Library plugin
    4. Reinstalled the Enhanced Media Library plugin
    5. Activated the Enhanced Media Library plugin
    6. Reconfigured the Enhanced Media Library plugin
    7. Created a new WordPress Post
    8. Clicked the Set Featured Image button
    9. Select the Filter by Category drop-down menu

    HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED:
None of the content categories appeared.
    Oh noes.

    HERE’S WHAT I DID NEXT:

    1. WP-Dashboard > Media > Library

    HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED NEXT:
All my content categories assigned to individual images had disappeared.
    Oh noes ^3.

    HERE’S WHAT I DID NEXT:

    1. Dropped my WordPress MySQL database
    2. Added an empty WordPress MySQL database
    3. Restored WordPress MySQL database from last night’s backup
    4. Cleared the OP Cache
    5. Cleared the WP Rocket Cache
    6. Created a new WordPress Post
    7. Clicked the Set Featured Image button
    8. Select the Filter by Category drop-down menu

    HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED NEXT:
My precious content Categories were restored, and best of all, recognized by the Enhanced Media Library plugin.

    Happy, happy ^5

I know that this doesn’t provide you with any debug information, but everything is now working as expected. I’m marking this topic as resolved.

Thanks again, Nadia, for your quick response and apologies for the false alarm and bother.

    Michael,

Thank you! I did some deeper research myself, and found the bug related to image metadata saving process. I am testing the fix now, it will be launched soon. Until that please avoid assigning media categories in the editor “Add Media” popup.

As for you actions, for everyone interested: DO NOT REPEAT MICHAEL’S ACTIONS WITHOUT MAKING A BACKUP PRIOR TO THEM!

Sorry for the Caps Lock, but this can be a disaster for someone.

Thank you for drawing my attention to the issue.

    Best,
    -Nadia

Update: v2.4.1 contains a fix. Please let me know if you experience any issue with filtering or assigning categories in media popup.

    Best,
    -Nadia

Looks like the 2.4.1 update has no problems with filtering or assigning categories in media popup.

    Thanks kindly.
