# Category div missing when adding the post in admin

 * The problem is that the “Category” menu when adding a new post in the admin panel
   is missing, so i’m unable to choose for what category the post is. The blog is
   new, and there are only 2 plugins installed, deactivating does not fix the problem.
   WordPress version 2.8.6
 * Any ideas how to fix it ?

 * Have you tried:
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.

 * Screen options? … could just be toggled off …
