Category Change Won’t Update

I am having a problem with the category not updating after a change.

I have a lot of visitors submitting posts, but most never remember to check a category. Therefore, their posst get put in the default category. When I attempt to update it manually by unchecking the default and checking the right category, it doesn’t take.

Anyone know why this might be happening and if there’s a solution for it?
