Category Base as parent categories

I am creating a site using this plugin to manage a setup with multiple subcategories of products. My problem is that when using Simple mode to generate lists of subcategories, those URLs are like

/category-base/subcategory

whereas I need them to be

/parentcategory/subcategory

or even

/toplevelparent/parent/subcategory

Is this possible? Basically I want to replace ‘category-base’ with a dynamic path of parent categories (to mirror the way WordPress page URLs work!)

As it is, I’m going to have to write manual redirects to turn

/category-base/subcategory into /parent/parent/child just to get the show_categories shortcode to work well.
