Category assignment

    I just created a WordPress blog and I have 2 posts. My second post auto assigns the default category to it, and I don’t want it to. I just want the one category I assign it to be the category. I have tried repeatedly to remove it, but it just reassigns it as soon as I update the post. Is this the norm?

    Also, just to add to this, I created a “test” category to see if I can delete it, and I cannot. It goes through the motion of deleting it, but it comes right back when you refresh the page or click ‘Categories’ again.
