Categories with separate Themes (3 posts)

I would like to see as a built-in feature of WordPress a way to set up different category pages from the default blog home page, or know how to do this with the current version.

This would enable each category to have a different look and field. Each category could have a totally layout, with it's own widgets and sidebars. There might not even be any links between some categories, and the "home" button would be the category home, not the blog home. This could even result in a single blog database being the source for multiple blog URLs as well.

For example, I could have a kitten photo category page with a theme suitable for my neocon christian grandaunt, and a totally different category them for my pages of Rocky Horror pictures.

Ideally, the pages would be so different, that although they would share the same database, and some of the same posts may appear on separate categories, there could actually be no links for the casual reader to indicate they are related at all. In other words, my neocon christian grandaunt would have no way to even accidently discover the rocky horror pictures.

So, how can I do this with the current version, or is anyone thinking about this for a future version.

That's exactly what I'm looking for too. Have you got any responses to this?

I see an answer has been posted elsewhere on this forum.
Thanks to Mike Lopez and his plug in called, "GYS Themed Categories," we can now do what you suggested...and what I think WordPress might want to make a part of its basic package. Mike's plugin works great for me.
