I run two very large WordPress based websites and mysteriously all of my categories, tags, events (running Event Manager) all disappeared. They still exist because WP is showing that I have categories, events, etc, and I can still ADD NEW stories and events, but they don’t show up to edit.
Any idea what’s going on here? I’ve deactivated all plugins, reinstalled WP 3.3.1 from the ‘Upgrades’ page, and repaired my database in cPanel with my host.
I need to figure this out ASAP so any help is MUCH appreciated.
You have looked in the database and noticed the records are all missing? If they aren’t in the db, they are gone. Sorry, mate. You quite possibly were hacked and/or your server crashed. Hopefully you were running some sort of database backup plugin, otherwise your hosting service might be wise enough to automatically backup and user databases so I would try contacting them.
Thanks, the records are there, but the descriptions are not. I’ve read on another blog that this happened to them and they re-named it with some SQL script, but I tried it and it didn’t work for me so I wanted to see if it’s worked for anyone else.
I can’t think of a reason your taxonomies wouldn’t be showing up just because the descriptions might be missing. And as far as reworking the database with specific queries, I’m not the right person to ask unfortunately.
Good luck though, keep plugging away. Try over at the wordpress.stackexchange forums, I’ve always had fantastic help there.
