They are sorted only alphabetically, whereas in the regular editor checked categories are in the beginning.

I do not understand your question. If I look at the link editor, I see the selected categories on top when I edit a link too.

    See image below.

    This is the regular editor.
    Imagine such list of categories:
    categor a [ ]
    categor b [ ]
    categor c [ ]
    categor d [ ]
    categor e [ ]
    categor f [ ]
    categor g [ ]

Mrked categories appear at the beginning:

    categor d [v]
    categor f [v]
    categor a [ ]
    categor b [ ]
    categor c [ ]
    categor e [ ]
    categor g [ ]

but only in the regular editor, not simple one. In simple one they are not on the top:

    categor a [ ]
    categor b [ ]
    categor c [ ]
    categor d [v]
    categor e [ ]
    categor f [v]
    categor g [ ]

And such list needs to be scrolled down to see, what is checked.

Oh, not I get it. By simple editor you mean the Quick Edit editor. Sorry I did not understand earlier.

This is a limitation of WordPress. If you look at the Quick Editor editor for posts or pages, you will see that the same thing happens.

Yes, quick editor, I didn’t know how to translate it’s name.
So you used part of WordPress and it can’t be sorted like in main editor.

Correct. In both the main editor and the quick editor, the list of categories comes is provided by WordPress. And as I mentioned, the same issue happens with regular blog posts. So the only thing I can suggest here is to look to see if anyone else has reported this issue in WordPress itself, and log an issue if not.

Oh, both came from WordPress, but WordPress is inconsistent because made them in different way.

Exactly, you got it. It is unfortunate, but I will not re-write that code to fix a WordPress inconsistency.
