• Hi, I’m having some trouble about how to find a good solution to this problem.

    I’m creating a cloths store that have the parents Men and Women categories. Inside each one I have the same categories.

    Eg:

    Women
    – T-shirt
    – Shoes

    Men
    – T-shirt
    – Shoes

    My problem:
    If the user click on Women, they must see all Women products, T-shirts and shoes at the same.

    If the user click on T-shirt under Women, they must see only Women T-shirts

    But if the user click on main T-shirt category, they must see both Men and Women T-shirts

    Furthermore, the breadcrumb must have the parent gender category on all products view.

    Eg:

    Parent T-shirts category:
    Home > Shop -> T-shirts

    Women T-shirts category:
    Home > Shop -> Women -> T-shirts

    Parent Men category:
    Home > Shop -> Men

    Product T-shirt item that is Men fashion
    Home -> Shop -> Men -> T-shirts -> Black beauty shirt

    I have three basic options:

    1) Create parent Men and Women categories and create double categories under it

    Example on category hierarchy:

    Men
    – T-shirt
    – Shoes

    Women
    – T-shirt
    – Shoes

    Pros: I have my hierarchy well done such as breadcrumbs
    Cons: I lose the main “T-shirt” category to show both Men and Women and I cant have the slugs of the same name categories the same.

    2) Create women and men as subcategories of the types (this I think is the worst choice)

    Example on category hierarchy:

    T-shirts
    – Men
    – Women

    Shoes
    – Men
    – Women

    Pros: I have the main category to show both Men and Women products
    Cons: The hierarchy of the breadcrumb will be inverse of what I really want and I lose the main gender category to show all products of the that gender. Furthermore I have to create a different slug to each Men subcategory what is not good.

    3) Create Men and Women categories at same level of products category and select both categories to the product. If I’m registering a female shoe, then I check both categories.

    Example on category hierarchy:

    Men
    Women
    T-shirts
    Shoes

    Pros: I can filter the main Gender and Type of products category
    Cons: As I don’t have the Hierarchy, I don’t know how to show the combination of Gender-Type on links and how to filter this prodcuts. I don’t know either how to show on products page the breadcrumb indicating the gender first of type like below.

    Product T-shirt item that is Men fashion
    Home -> Shop -> Men -> T-shirts -> Black beauty shirt

    So this is the explanation of my problem. Its a bit of tech philosophy.

    If someone want to debate it with me I’ll be glad of hearing what you have to say!

    Best regards to all.
